Checking all the drafts here I realize I’ve been trying to photograph and write something for the blog since June 2nd 2019 and funny enough my last post is 3 and a half years old, which is unacceptable. This, mixed with the fact that I’ve been shooting film (and not developing nor scanning it) exclusively for the past years, makes for yet another excuse to not write and share photos. Fast-forward to 2020 and here I am forcing myself to shoot, write and post again as it’s something I enjoy and probably stopped doing because of my: meh I’ll do it later nature, and considering I’ve literally had my dream come true and I find not photographing and posting regularly lamentable as I’ve been filling my mouth talking about how many photos I’d take if lived in another country and how much of a better photographer I’d be and all this nonsense that wears out 2 weeks in after you’ve moved in somewhere new and then you become your old lazy self…
As you may or may not know (depending if you follow me on the interwebs or not… ehem links at the end of the post) last year, on April 16th 2019, I moved to New Zealand and I’ve been living here ever since. I’ve thought again about this and will do a separate post talking about what’s like living here for me as well as my thoughts. This is the first post of the year so let’s not do everything in one big long take and then do nothing for the rest of the year. I will (hopefully) be posting more regularly as I said before, because I enjoy doing this and I like it. By the way for some weird reason I feel like this could be a script for a youtube video...maybe? well okay maybe this belongs elsewhere…
Beloved reader, without further ado here is the first post of the year with a few photos I took this morning trying to describe how I see this place I’m currently living in called Palmerston North.
Maybe with this series I will change everybody’s perception of New Zealand which usually involves nature. Well, perhaps not change but show a part that usually is hidden or simply not shown nor seen. Of course being me I wouldn’t do the normal thing, after all I’m not here on holiday but living, therefore the things you’ll see are my daily landscapes that surprisingly are the ones I’ve been wanting to photograph for years and never thought I’d find in New Zealand. But worry not, I will of course share photos of the dreamy landscapes, forests, road trips, all the promised film photos, etc but that will come later in the future.
I hope you enjoy the photos because thanks to the idea of doing a post like this and paying attention to the details in the city, I started a long term project based on a “thing” that I’ve only encountered here in “Palmy”. There’s one photograph hidden in the post about the subject of the project. (Extra brownie points for whoever discovers it and contacts me)
As usual if you have any suggestions or critiques feel free to message me or post in the comments down below.
Now for real, sit back, sip your coffee or tea and hopefully enjoy the photos.
J.
